Consciousness: The Elaborate Illusion

Despite death being a total illusory hoax (in all actuality), the delusion is still pervasive; certainly pervasive enough to be feared, or at least, to cause twinges of anxiety about this ultimate future “end”.

But there is another pervasive illusion in which death is a metric used to measure its existence…

                                                                        Consciousness

For as long as I can remember I was attracted not to death itself or the existence of conscious, particularly, but where exactly does “me” go when I die?

There of course is a “me”; I think, eat, sleep, attract things, repel things, remember things, am related to things; I “know” this...is when I die the end of knowing these things?

I eventually came upon the knowledge that the real “me” doesn’t exist; to apply a Peter Sellers quote to make an esoteric and metaphysical thought humorous.

The “I” is the fallacy that projects itself onto the “self” as its doppelganger. So now I know that there is no consciousness (since it is part of the fallacious “I”) what does that have to do with after-life?

Human Consciousness is probably the most evolved trait in the animal kingdom. Every animal has varying degrees of consciousness in relation to us; pet owners know this especially. With the animals that we domesticate, a certain level of our idiosyncrasies rub off; especially on our cats and dogs.

As we learned in school, our bodies are made up of organ systems, which in turn are composed of organs, which are made of tissues, which are made up of cells; and those cells are made up of molecules which are made up of elements. Interesting how we learned this in reverse; from the cell upwards, but this is how the body breaks down during decomposition.

What happens to the elements that once made us? Depending on how we “leave”, they go to the bacteria, to the soil, to the buzzards, to the grass, to the wolves, the lions, the trees, the water, the air, and all of these being have their own forms of consciousness, just at different levels of  being conscious of their “consciousness”.

When will the next time be after you die that you will become aware of a consciousness that doesn’t exist?

Remember fertilization: the sperm and egg carry the genetic material to create us, but they are still made up of the same elements that make up everything around us. The raw material isn’t “conscious”, but it will eventually create consciousness in a couple years time of development out of seemingly thin air.

Maybe the next time you open your eyes and are aware of yourself will be at this strange juncture of human conception.

Let’s just hope you’re enlightened from the get go this time.
