The Watched Pot
...and it could have been anything…
...got this person upset.
What it was, no one could ascertain for certain, not even the angry individual, even though they had a lot to say.
“If only they would learn to be less back-biting and evil!”
“They can go straight to…”
“...we are no longer friends…”
But as they started to calm down, and their reassuring friends left for the night, they decided to make some dinner.
It was going to be a quick package meal that only required a pot of boiling water.
Still miffed from earlier, they were not paying full attention; they only put about a cup of water in the pot from the tap and turned the heat on the highest setting.
Walking back to the living room to wait until the water boiled, they were surprised to hear the boiling and hissing straightaway.
They ran back to the kitchen in just enough time to see the last droplets of water in the pot evaporate into steam.
Taking their time now, they measured out a four cups and put the heat on simmer.
Noticing that some ten minutes had gone by with the water just starting to come to a boil…
...they saw just how much their rage could go on before burning itself out.
