The Tobacco Shop

An individual was a complete bill of health.

They awoke at dawn every morning to go for two-mile run.

They ate only a vegetarian diet with as little meat as possible.

They only drank water, and constantly at that.

Which all of this is interesting since they worked as a seller of one of the most dangerous things to one’s health;

They were a tobacco and cigarette salesman.

This interesting juxtaposition was not lost on people; one of their friends came into the shop one day and in conversation, brought it up.

“You know, you’re probably one of the healthiest and fittest people in the county; you should probably be selling vitamins or athletic equipment…”

“...why cigarettes?”

The tobacconist responded jovially:

“Oh yes, I could be doing a thousand and one different things, but if I pursued those I would have to get rid of this and there’s no guarantee I would be successful in those things; and besides I would lose this too.”

“And besides, I have the deed to the place.”
