A group of old men were playing cards one evening. The men had been friends for a long time, ever since they met as longshoremen as teenagers. On their game nights, they only played one card game; a form of poker that included: No purse. No betting. No bluffing. The only “goal” of the game was to compare the different hands each person developed after each deal. One day, a young man joined their game. Expecting a traditional game, he soon became miffed. “You mean y’all don’t bet? Where’s the fun then?” “The fun is in seeing what the next hand is.” “...but what can you possibly get out of that? “Enjoyment.”
