A physicist was working on a tough problem that he encountered at work.

It was a problem, that if figured out, could turn the traditional views of the world, and indeed, the universe, on its head.

He was having great difficulty finding an answer, however he thought that some time away from thinking about would clear his mind enough to solve his problem.

He decided to take his daughter with him to the beach one day.

While they were walking along the shore, his daughter looked out into the ocean and saw the waves crest and fall flat against the beach.

“Dad, how are waves created?”

The father started to give an answer like a receipt coming out of a machine, but something triggered him out of his “automatic” state.

He began to think about the question, and the answer that he was about to give.”

“A wave is a motion that water does when something influences it to make it.”

“So if it there was nothing to influence it, there would be no wave, right?”

After a few seconds of contemplation,

...he found his answer.
