Do you know what happiness is? If you are one who searches for it, you should have a good idea, shouldn’t you? Most everyone searches for happiness, but you’d be surprised to hear that almost nobody knows what it really is. Would you like to know? Perhaps you think you already do. Then what’s the problem! Go get it! Why are you waiting? No: if you seek happiness, you do not know what it is. If you knew what it was, you would not need to seek it. You would go out and get it, or if you decided this was impossible you would give up. Either way, you do not seek what you know. You do, or do not. Seeking implies not knowing. So always remember this if you think you know what happiness is but you still seek. You desire to know what happiness is because to believe that you know it comforts you. Don’t believe it. This is what makes you miserable every hour of the day when you do not have your happiness. Forget it. Where does this leave you? As a seeker, a searcher. As long as you search, you will be unhappy. See the problem? It is your searching. Stop searching and you will be happy. Drop it. You search because you do not know. You do not know because you assume there is something to know that you do not have. Realize you already know happiness and you will stop searching. Study it. What is it? When you see, you will have it. The search ends.
