Golden Silence

A child took their parent’s admonishment to heart.

“Stay in a child’s place.”

...and of course the famous one…

“Children should be seen and not heard.”

The child, however, took these lessons a little too literally;

...they did not speak at all.

At first, this seemed like subversive behavior at school, but when discipline did not help the situation, the teachers were very concerned.

When they contacted the parents, it confirmed their worst fears; they had noticed their child’s silence, but they only took it as them obeying their parent’s wish.

With the child soon to be tested for developmental and even physical disorders, and the unexpected and dire future this would mean for them, it became too much for their parents to handle.

Late at night, in one of the most stimulating parts of the day, the child was awakened to the sound of crying from their parent’s room.

At that moment, it became clear to the child that it was time to put away their childish things.

He made his way down the hall and knocked on the door.
