A third grade teacher gave their class a homework assignment to draw a picture of their favorite landscape from memory. One student thought that this assignment was going to be some combination of easy, fun, and exciting, but they soon realized that it was going to be tougher than previously thought. They were not particularly artistic, but they did have a large assortment of crayons and markers that could be used to make a lovely picture… ...that is, if one had something to draw. The student had no idea where to start, so they went to their teacher for help. “Are you saying you do not have a favorite place to draw?” “I like all places I’ve been to so much, I don’t have just one favorite.” “Well it’s simple then; since you have so many favorites, I want you to pick one to draw for the assignment and then I want you to draw all the others and then bring them to me.” In a few months, the student had over 100 drawings that their teacher showcased at school.

A little support and insight on the part of a teacher can bring out the creativity in students.
