Choice

​A grocery store cashier asked a customer if they wanted their groceries to be placed in either a paper or a plastic bag.

The customer did not have a preference, in fact they did not much care, but they asked the cashier what were the benefits of each.

“The plastic bags are stronger but they need to be recycled or disposed of properly; the paper bags are thin and biodegradable, but because of that they will rip easily.”

“Sounds like the advantages and disadvantages of both even out, so it doesn’t matter which I choose.”

“Yeah, that sounds like it.”

“Just one question though…

...why doesn’t your store just make the choice to offer one or the other?”

“Well that would take the choice out of your hands wouldn’t it?”
