Before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment... ...chop wood and carry water. Every magnificent experience, as eye opening as it may be... ...as significant as it really is... ...is ultimately just an experience. The reason why we shouldn't get too hung up on experiences is that people have negative experiences and positive ones, yet it seems that they are over just as soon as they start. 70, 80, or 90 years on this Earth is a long time compared to momentary pleasure or displeasure. Let us be more concerned with our longevity. Let us build the healthiest bodies physically and mentally in order to best endure what life brings.

Contrary to popular belief, we do not want a life of ease. We do not want a clear path to unfold before us. (where's the fun in that?) If there was only one option, It would make things simple, but it would make things boring. The more choices you have the better; and even if you cannot see any, pretend that they are there. Your imagination just might create reality. "Tough love." Discipline = Freedom Ripping off the band aid. Not putting off until tomorrow what you can do today. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Slow and steady wins the race. What objectively looks like a terrible situation can result in positive outcomes if you use it to your benefit. ![]() The worst thing to do is to not do. If you go the whole distance in training from the first hard fought and painful mile to running the full 26.2 miles in front of your fellow citizens spurring you on in your local race, ...what one hell of a journey. I do not know what your obligations are in life, or even your likes, but in whatever you do: Go the extra mile. Try and name the most perfect human being who ever lived. Who ya’ got? Probably you would choose a religious figure such as Jesus or Buddha. Perhaps if you are more secularly inclined, you might choose a particularly saintly or virtuous individual such as Mother Teresa or Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. What makes these people “perfect” in your eyes? They embodied love: Compassion Kindness Decency But it is still perfectly acceptable to note these individuals’ “flaws” wherever they may lie. We all have flaws. We all can see others’ flaws as well, but we especially and quite intimately know our own. The good thing about when we see those things that we do not like in ourselves and give us problems, those are the exact indications that give us the impetus to change. No one is born perfect, but that does not mean there is no such thing as perfection. We must do what we can to strive for perfection in our lives as much as possible. Do the right thing… ...anything else but, is hardly an option. |
