A young kid was in an airport with his family traveling on vacation.
Their flight will not arrive for a few hours, so the kid gets permission from their parents to do a little exploring.
But after a quick 20 minutes or so, they saw all that there was to see, so they started to make their way back to the waiting area…
...when they suddenly heard a commotion.
A large group of screaming young men and women form themselves into a crowd around one central figure:
...one of the hottest and most famous pop stars of the generation.
The pop star stopped to work over the crowd; a couple interviews with the paparazzi and autograph signing, along with taking a few selfies with their fans.
The kid knew of the celebrity, and they were even in close proximity to get an autograph if they so wanted…
…but they just did not want to do that.
After a while, the crowd died down and they noticed the kid standing just to the side, conspicuously out of the way.
Curious about their “interestedness” they went over to them.
“I’m surprised, I’ve given an autograph to every single kid in here but you; you don’t like me?”
“Oh it’s not that, I just didn’t want to bother you.”
The pop star promptly gave the kid his autograph for his trouble.
A man had a particular “spiritual” problem, so he thought the best person to go to and get answers was his pastor.
He went and asked, and his pastor was quick with a response; though, maybe not the one he was expecting.
“Did you ask yourself first?”
A little confused, he gave a response.
“Well, I was confused about my situation, so I wanted a clear answer. I don’t know how I would answer my own question though?”
“Since you have your problem that you want solve, how would it be possible for anyone else but you to solve the issue that you have created?”
A school bus driver was driving a group of kids to their field trip early one morning.
This bus driver was known for being one of the best in the area; not only having a professional driver’s pedigree, but always picked up and dropped off the children promptly and quickly day in and day out.
And of course, the kids loved him; and even more than that, they respected him.
More so than the other drivers with their travails of chauffeuring rowdy and rambunctious kids to and fro, this driver never had a problem.
But his popularity would be tested today.
The morning fog was starting to dissipate in the heat of the early sunrise.
The fog was not so much a problem in itself, but it limited visibility up to 60 yards away, at which point a deer found himself in the middle of the road with no heads up to give either way of the impending collision…
...until it was too late.
Interestingly enough, the hit did not cause too much of a commotion in the back, but when the kids saw the look of concern on the bus driver’s face, they perked up.
Trickling out of the bus to see what had happened, the kids saw the deer on the side of the road; the driver having moved it there from the middle of the road.
The children had mixed reactions, some more visceral than others:
The more sensitive ones started to cry.
The more brash ones started to make fun.
The more inquisitive ones got as close as possible to get the best view.
Seeing all of this, the driver took immediate action.
“Children, I will say this and then I do not want any talking. This animal is in great pain, so much pain its spirit can barely hold onto its body. It is our duty, when we see those who suffer, to make sure that their suffering ends, whether that is making sure that the hungry eat, or the cold to be made warm, or the hate-filled to be shown love.”
“In every single thing that we do, we must show respect; that simply means that we need to be thoughtful. We need to pay attention to everything without judging, without acting, without doing anything ourselves, but only to take in what is happening around us…
...and then let it go.”
A night owl had to get up early next morning, so he went to sleep early in the evening.
Well, earlier than their normal, at least.
Since this was a “new” thing to do, they decided to milk out the whole thing:
After a nice hot bath, they washed their face and conditioned their hair;
And after reading a chapter in the latest bestseller, turned the lights off for the night.
At first, the pre-bed ritual made them quite relaxed, but after a while, they noticed that they were not sleepy.
Of course, facing an increasingly warming pillow and the indecision between sleeping on the back or on the side, did not help anything.
With things not getting better, there was certainly room for things to get worse; and that is exactly what happened when a steady rain began to fall.
The night owl did not even here it come in, until of course, he heard a drip on the outside of his window sill.
All of the little, annoying things until this point they could deal with, but this was unbearable…
...how were they to get a good night sleep with all of this?
Though of course, as the rain continued to fall, and as they settled into the right sleeping position it was not long before the next thing they realized was the sun rising.
A town had an annual event:
Men and women of all ages converged at the town square in the dark of the early morning just before dawn.
This was a contest that the townspeople anticipated for the whole year, and when that day came in the dead of winter, there was only the warm feeling of excitement in the air.
There was only one rule and guideline;
“Start at the beginning, and come back to the start when you have finished.”
At first light, the signal man started the count…
...and the citizens were on the hunt for elusive treasure.
From the gun start, and prepared with game plans, maps and compasses they raced to see who would find it.
Yet every year, it wound up that no one found was able to find the prize, thus keeping the excitement to see if they would be able to find the elusive reward next year.
This year however, there was one girl determined to win the prize, so naturally, she paid close attention to the rule:
“Start at the beginning…”
And she did, preparing for the next step.
“...and come back to the start when you have finished.”
She resolved in her heart to do so, but yet, she felt that she had a good knowledge of how to start and how to finish, but how was she to find the treasure?
Of course, until it dawned on her what the rules actually meant.
There was only a beginning and the end, and the beginning and the end were at the same place.
The girl went up to the signal man and asked him for the prize.
